Realme announced the arrival of its first phone with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, GT2 Explorer Master, on July 12, 2022. This flagship smartphone comes with a bespoke design. The collaboration in this design was carried out with the famous fashion designer Jae-Jung.
The Realme GT2 Explorer Master has a 6.7” AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360 Hz. The display has 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and Full HD+ resolution.
The company developed a special X7 display driver chip that optimizes screen performance and power consumption. The bezels are very thin at 1.48mm on the sides and top and 2.37mm on the bottom.
The triple camera setup on the back includes the popular 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, just like its predecessor GT Explorer Master. About half a dozen other Realme smartphones use the Sony sensor.
The 150-degree FoV ultrawide camera has a 50MP sensor, the wide camera is also 50 MP and the 2MP only shoots macro. Video capability 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps, gyro-EIS. The 16MP selfie camera is mounted in the punch hole in the center with 1080p@30fps video capabilities.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset has a powerful Adreno 730 GPU that works with the Realme X7 chip to ensure better touch responsiveness and proper selection of refresh rates. In theory, the X7 can artificially extrapolate frame rates from 30fps to 120fps during gameplay and from 60fps to 120fps in other scenarios.
The distinctive design of this phone is called "Travel Trunk". The frame is made of metal, while the back is made of “vegan leather”, which is a luxury plastic. This phone is also offered in plain white and plain black. The device is equipped with a shoulder button, which is not the usual mechanical button, but a pressure sensitive area on the right side (upper while playing games).
Realme says the GT2 Explorer Master promises wonders for mobile gamers and users who will try and get everything from the hardware. The phone has two steam chambers and a Realme GT Mode 3.0.
The embedded battery capacity is 5,000 mAh with 100W fast charging. Realme claims charging to 100 percent is achieved in 25 minutes. The company promises that even so, the battery will last twice as long as its competitors thanks to the GaN material in the cells, which guarantees a full 1,600 cycles before the battery capacity is reduced to 80 percent.
The Realme GT2 Explorer Master uses the Realme UI 3.0 operating system on top of Android 12. The device is designed in such a way that the metal frame acts as an antenna for better 5G connectivity. Other features include dual-band GPS, 360-degree NFC and an under-display optical FP scanner.
The phone will only be available in mainland China and reportedly Realme is not planning to bring it overseas. Prices start at CNY3,499 for the 8/128GB version, CNY3,799 for the 8/256GB, and CNY3,999 for the 12/256GB. Pre-orders are already open on Realme.com, and shipping will start on July 19.
